Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) is among the top 20 engineering universities in Pakistan yet the admission policy is surrounded by corruption and irregularities.
Recently Charter Inspection & Evaluation Committee (CIEC) raised question on the admission policy of SSUET in their report. It declared that the admission policy is not transparence. CIEC is a committee established by the Ministry of Education & Literacy, Sindh.
CIEC not only identified the irregularities and misleading data in University prospectus and website but also gave suggestions to rectify these mistakes.
The university administration was recommended to increase the salaries of the teaching staff and also increase the ration of teacher to students. Currently there is just 1 lecturer for 50 students, which is far less then what they claimed on their website.
Regarding admission the administration was asked to upload the list of successful candidates on their website. It was also said that the complete list of successful candidates should also be put on the notice board within the university campus.
Another important recommendation was about concentration and emphasize on research. CIEC recommended Sir Syed University to promote research and send these research papers to Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved journals for publication.
SSUET was also asked to build more laboratories as the current capacity is insufficient for the large number of students who are studying in the university. The administration was also asked to increase the PhD allowance from Rs. 6,000 to Rs 10,000 which is recommended by government.
Recommendations were also made regarding the syllabus of the university. They were asked to change, modify and update the syllabus to make it compatible with modern time and state-of-the-art universities.
This report was issued after CIEC visited the university in which the CIEC Chairman Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Vice Chancellor of Mehran University Muhammad Aslam Aqeeli, Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University Dr. Tariq and additional secretary education Aziz Fatima was also present.
