High pitched Chand Raat shopping is generally experienced in Karachi and other cities of Pakistan of the eve of Eid ul Fitr. The markets are seen overcrowded with enthusiastic purchasers and optimistic vendors.
Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr as a gift by Allah followed by the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan. The shopping trend on Chand Raat touch highest levels on Chand Raat and makeshift bakery shops comes up throughout the city which shrinks the already choked traffic arteries.
The bakery shops are virtually flooded with people, shoving and pushing one another. Long traffic jams are witnessed in the cities and children as usual comes in the forefront of the shopping spree, driving their parents crazy.
Prominent roads always bustle with shoppers, while the women at all times are seen to be on a buying spree. The buyers do not leave any stone unturned to purchase the most recent arrivals of jewellery, garments and furniture as well.
Children, youth or aged, all wait for Eid ul Fitr, an occasion of brotherhood and harmony that is celebrated on the completion of blessed month of Ramadan. Many people spend the Chand Raat in Ramadan preparing traditional desserts, to give to neighbors and friends during the Ramadan Feast. Many people shop for new clothes on the night to be worn the next special day.
[junkie-alert style=”white”] Despite a number of positives to be taken out from the Chand Raat activities in Ramadan, the most negative aspect of the excessive shopping during the last nights of Ramadan is that these are the blissful nights of Ramadan which we usually waste shopping the whole night. [/junkie-alert]
What we should do on these nights is to devote ourselves to prayers during the special nights of Ramadan and shop during the day time. This will balance our priorities and we could gain more reward through it.
