Sheikh Rasheed is an experienced politician. It is not the first time that he  will serve as a Federal Minister for Railway, previously in 2006-2007 he also served as a Railway Minister. It was the reason why he was selected for the ministry.

Sheikh Rasheed started his political career as a student leader during the regime of Ayub Khan. He participated in general elections of 1985 for the first time as an independent candidate. He was elected as a MNA in consecutive elections of 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997 & 2002.

The only election he lost was in 2008, In 2013 and 2018 elections he made a comeback by succeeding in securing his National Assembly seat.
