It has been reported in urgent by one of our news correspondents that former Pakistan Olympic umpire Shams-uz-Zaman has passed away on 20th January 2012. The 66 year old Shams-uz-Zaman performed as a referee in Los Angeles Olympics held in 1984, moreover performed in two World Cups in Buenos Aires and then in Bombayfrom the year 1978 to 1982. He also performed in Asian Games held in Tehran in 1974.
International Hockey Federation (FIH) praised him in the year 2011 and granted him FIH President’s Award. No doubt he is a great loss to Pakistan’s hockey squad and for the nation as well. He will be remembered for his services to Paksitan.
