Karachi: Recognizing Afridi’s Pashto-speaking background United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the Prime Minister’s Polio Monitoring Cell have decided to ask for help from the famous cricketer Shahid Afridi.
The decision has primarily been taken in a bid to change the negative perceptions regarding anti-polio vaccines in the tribal areas, where occurrence of the heinous disease is the highest.
According to a report published in a local English newspaper, the talks to involve the charming cricketer in the campaign and make him the ‘Polio Champion’ started three months back, along with Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who is at present the ambassador for polio eradication in the country.
Exclusive photo shoots and video recordings are already underway in this regard which would prove to be extremely helpful in tribal areas and Pushto speaking localities. The official announcement would be made during a ceremony before the upcoming anti-polio campaign in the second week of this month.
