Shahid Afridi is a man who attracts attention wherever he goes. Be it on the field or off it, Shahid Afridi’s eccentric personality makes sure that people have their eyes on him. Recently a short video clip has emerged on social networks which portray Afridi as a non supporter of the idea of women playing cricket. The video caused uproar among the population and women especially but Afridi has clarified his position saying his comments were taken out of context.
The interview in question showed Afridi being asked whether he thinks women should play cricket to which he replied that “Our women have great taste in their hands and they cook very tasty food”. Shahid Afridi clarifies that his comments had been taken out of context and his whole answer has not been shown in the video. He said that he has always been a strong supporter of the Pakistan women’s cricket team and had even helped them in getting sponsorships.
Former international women’s player Kainat Imtiaz has also backed Afridi saying that he was always supportive of their team and encouraged them whenever they met in the National academy in Lahore. Afridi has claimed that this clipping is an attempt by those who are jealous of him to decrease his support and defame him in the eyes of the public.
