Bab-e-Peshawar flyover was constructed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government to control the traffic between Hayatabad & Karkhano Market but it has become the favourite spot for Selfie lovers, that’s why locals have named it Selfie Bridge.
The bridge is the first multilayer flyover in KPK but if you visit the flyover after sunset you will find more Selfie lovers than passing vehicles, this leads to the question that was it worth for the amount used in the construction?
Some claim that it was done for political gains while others believe that it was constructed on the basis of projected traffic in the coming years.
The project was completed in a record time of 5 months with a huge cost of Rs. 1.72 billion. Hayatabad Residents Society President Nawab Khattak criticized the provincial government saying this flyover has created traffic problems for the society.
He also raised question on the cost and quality of the flyover. Talking about the recent cracks in the pillars of the flyover he said it was completed to gain political benefit resulting in compromise of quality.
Recently cracks were seen on one of the major pillars of the flyover raising citizens concern about the quality of the project. Director General of Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) said that the team from the constructor has ensured that the cracks are of plaster only.
