Saudi Arabia Bans Maids From Philippines And Indonesia

Saudi Arabia`s Labour Ministry will no longer issue work permits for domestic workers from Philippines and Indonesia after new hiring guidelines were announced by those countries.

This ban will be effective from 2nd July. Few days back Indonesia announced that it would not send maid/domestic workers to Saudi Arabia until Government of Saudi Arabia signs a deal on migrant worker protection.

The suspension followed after the execution of an Indonesian maid convicted of murdering her Saudi employer`s wife..

Around seven million foreigners work in Saudi Arabia, of whom more than a million are Indonesian. Most are domestic workers, mainly cooks, maids and cleaners.
