The Political Administration of Frontier Region Tank has constructed irrigation channels for the communities of Danish in Sherzaman Kach and Umar Hayat Kach in Sobati Kach.
A press release issued by the Directorate of Information, FATA Secretariat stated that the Political Administration prioritized the project and constructed an irrigation channel and retaining wall for the communities of Danish in Sherzaman Kach to enable the irrigation of acres of fertile land. The project benefits approximately 1,100 individuals.
The press release stated that the political administration has also constructed an irrigation channel and retaining wall at Umar Hayat Kach that is benefiting approximately 1,300 individuals. This area is located close to the main Tank-Jandola-Waziristan road. The press release added that some 55 acres of land are now irrigated. This is a very fertile land where mostly tomatoes are cultivated. Improvement to their livelihood was identified by community members as their most pressing need. The local population was facing hardship in accessing water for irrigation. The rehabilitation of the irrigation channel is helping community members improve their livelihood.
The local elders of FR Tank thanked the Political Administration for honoring their commitment to addressing the basic needs of the community. They expressed the hope that rehabilitation of irrigation channels would help improve the yield per acre in their areas. In order to create a sense of ownership among the people, local skilled and unskilled labour were hired and the local population took active part in the selection and implementation process which resulted in swift and quality completion of the project.
