Karachi: Recently Rashid Latif rejected a post of chief selector offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board and now he has broken his silence on this matter as it has revealed that there were two reasons behind this refusal. The reasons were Rashid Latif was not happy with the interference of Cricket Board for the appointment of members of the board and the presence of Director Game and Development in the Selection Committee.
The former wicket-keeper batsman is known as the first Pakistani cricketer who raised his voice against match-fixing. According to the PCB reports, there are differences between Rashid Latif and PCB, though, sources some sources said Rashid Latif has decided to step away because of differences with the board over the selection of the other members of the national selection committee and matters of authority.
The gap between Rashid Latif and PCB was more increased at the time when the news was published in an English newspaper that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly not pressuring Rashid Latif to change his decision of declining the chief selector’s job because the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is pressurizing to keep banned Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria out of cricket.
Rashid Latif told to BBC in query that I will remain silent in the matter, but to understand the facts is very important in the current situation. He said on 26th February at Gaddafi Stadium, the PCB chairman said to me that you support a lot Danish Kaneria. It has reportedly revealed that the ECB had not been glad with the news of PCB’s job offer to Latif because it felt that the former Pakistani captain had been openly supporting Kaneria over the issue of a life ban on him.
