Muslims all around the globe visit Holy cities of Makkah and Madina for Holy pilgrimage from around the globe. Before the boom in the air industry travelling from one place to another was very difficult.

Most of the people travelled through ships and ferries while some travelled from small aircrafts. For travelling within cities old transport cars were used.
The city of Makkah at that was a small city with only few thousand population.
The Mosque and the area around Kaaba was not renovated after Ottoman caliphate.

As the crowd was not huge people were allowed to enter the Kaaba and pray inside it. Less crowd meant it was easier to make Tawaf.
At this time the black Americans were still facing discrimination in USA, the black natives of South Africa was still fighting for basic human rights in South Africa while even in that time the Muslim world was not facing any racial problem.
