Rana Tanveer Hussain is a Pakistani politician from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) who is also an ex-minister. In this biography we will discuss his early life, education, political struggle and role in government.
He is an agriculturist, industrialist & economist who has been active in politics from many years.
Early Life:
He was born on October 1, 1949 just 2 years after independence of Pakistan. He was born in the historical city of Sheikhupura which was established by Mughal ruler Jahangir.
It is believed that Rana Tanveer completed his early education from hometown. Later he went to Lahore for higher studies from where he completed his LLB and received his MA in Economics from Punjab University.
Details are not known about his parents and family members except his brother Rana Zahid Anwar and Rana Afzal Hussain who is also a politician and MNA.
Political Career:
Rana Tanveer started his political career from his hometown Sheikhupura. In 1983 he was elected as the Member of District Council which was his first position in any government office.
Later he participated in the elections for National Assembly and was successful in becoming a MNA during:

In 1985 he participated in the elections as an independent candidate and was successful to win the seat despite strong opponents from big political parties. After elections he joined Pakistan Muslim League and has since remained loyal with the leadership of PMLN.
In the elections of 1993 he lost from his native constituency but was successful in the next elections.
Minister:
In 1997 he was selected as a special assistant on Finance to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He served him until the 1999 coup when the democratic government was dissolved by General Musharraf.
In 2013 PM Nawaz Sharif appointed him as the Minister for Defence Production, later the portfolio of Minister for Science and Technology was also given to him. When Nawaz Sharif was disqualified and a new cabinet was selected, he again became the Federal Minister for Defence Production.
He is considered as being near to the Sharif family who remained loyal with PMLN even at the time of crackdown such as during 1999 military coup when many leaders left PMLN & joined other political parties.
