Islamabad: PTCL announced that with the commencement of month of November, the student package would cost bill of Rs. 1250, without any discount. That means students would have to pay bills like the other users. Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) had introduced DSL Broadband in 2008, offering up to 30 % discount for college and university going students.
Competitor Link.net had had also introduced the same offer. But, the internet using facility was very limited. Hence, PTCL won over to attract massive users for its package. In the year 2009, the telecom company increased the speed of the packages, hence doubling it to 1 mbps as standard.
After some time, change in the quality service as well as the package was witnessed. The package began to lose its set standard in terms of speed and the bill, with discounts being cut down gradually. Student package users’ can neither facilitate themselves through the use of smart TVs, nor could they enjoy internet speed more than 2mbps.
Therefore the ‘student package’ users shall switch to some other broadband internet network. The less, opting for PTCL’s economy package that offers internet connection at 10 gigabyte with Rs 500 as the monthly charges would still be a better option.
