The registration of VPN will be through internet service provider for which the last date is June 30, 2019. The notice further explained that failure to register and illegal usage of VPN can result in legal action against the user.
For the extension and delay in blocking of mobile phones, PTA revealed that this relief is being offered due to the difficulties of coronavirus. To ensure social distancing and safety of users the blocking is delayed till 4th July after which the unregistered smartphones will start getting blocked.
According to PTA all mobile phones which are using local SIM are required to get registered within 60 days of their first use of local networks in Pakistan. The IMEIs which were due to be blocked from 18th March to 3rd July was delayed but these will be now blocked from 4th July.
The registration for new users is possible online through Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS) which is accessible through the official website or by simply dialing *8484#.
It is said that the launch of DIRBS reduced the resale of stolen mobile phones and also provided revenue for federal government through imported smartphones.
