Pakistani Telecommunication Authority (PTA) launches DIRBS to block stolen, snatched, smuggled & illegal mobile phones out of network. This system was launched during a ceremony in celebration of 50 million broadband subscribers.
Device Identification, Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS) uses mobile IMEI number to block stolen, snatched & smuggled smartphones. After DIRBS your snatched mobile will not be of any worth for the snatcher as no cellular network will provide its services on that number.
On the direction of PTA all mobile phone companies will start media campaign to educate customers for the requirement of compliant IMEI for devices.

It will also stop the illegal smuggling of mobile phones in Pakistan because registration of IMEI numbers with PTA they will not get cellular service. This will increase the tax revenue as more people will use legal means to import smartphones.
DIRBS will also block mobiles with counterfeit IMEI and invalid IMEI. People who have ordered mobile phones from other countries will have to get NOC and get registered through PTA.
People can check the status of their IMEI number through the official portal of DIRBS which PTA initiated.
