Karachi: Provincial Education Department has decided to end Saturday’s holiday to increase academic sessions in the local private and public holidays, sources have learnt. Provincial Education Secretary told the media that due to short period of academic sessions, syllabuses are often not completed.
Throughout the year, only 160 days are marked as working days at the educational institutions. Strikes, occasions and due to religious events, schools often remain suspended. Closure of the educational institutes, immensely affect to smooth running of the academic session, spoke the secretary.
Generally, private schools observe two days holiday in a week. While, the government schools remain open on Saturday, he further stated. In Sindh, majority of the population in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas are enrolled in private institutions. Two days off in a week, affect academics of the students.
“Hence, we have decided of devising strategies. According to it, the local schools in the province, shall remain suspended on Sundays only”, said the Provincial Educational Secretary. The decision to extend sessions, with a day off observed in a week is a good step. The educational department has taken to making sessions better for the students. But, majority of the parents are unhappy with only a day off in a week. Since, Pakistani children are quite a mess. Mothers would get a day only to take rest and manage the house chores would be more difficult.
Summary: Provincial Ministry, Sindh has decided of making Saturdays, working days. Final announcement by the department has not yet been made. Parents are unhappy with the decision. Since, it would add up to their busy schedule.
