Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed all the political parties to declare their asset details by 29 August 2013. Sources have stated that out of the 230 parties only 14 have yet submitted their asset details.
The political parties that have fulfilled their due responsibility towards the commission include JUI-F, Pakistan Brohi Party, Pakistan Social Justice Party, Awami Party Pakistan, Muhajir Kashmir Movement, PPP-Shaheed Bhutto, Awami League of Shiekh Rasheed Ahmed, Tehreek-i-Tabdeeli Nizam Pakistan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek-e- Inqilab, and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.
However the influential parties in respect have lagged behind to fulfill the constitutional obligation. PML-N, MQM, PTI, PPP and PML-Q have not presented any details yet.
Article 13 of Political Parties Order 2002, requires every political party to submit their asset details at the end of every financial year, a recorded statement audited by a chartered accountant, said an ECP official.
The ECP statement directs all the political parties to ensure their asset details or otherwise they would fail to get representation in the provincial and national assemblies. A certificate signed by the party leaders that bears the financial statement should be carried by the office bearer to the commission. The statement received through fax, courier shall not be entertained.
ECP has further directed the parties to ensure that no funds have had been taken by the respective political parties or else they would violate the article 14 of Political Parties Order and hence termed ineligible for election representation.
