Saira Afzal Tarar is a MNA from NA-102 (Hafizabad-1) and a member of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN). She also served as the state Minister of Health and later as Minister of Health Sciences Regulation and Coordination for one year.
Saira Afzal was born on June 7, 1966 in a small village called KOLO TARAR located in the district of Hafizabad in a very prominent and political family.
She is the daughter of Chaudhry Afzal Hussain Tatar and daughter in law of Rafiq Tatar, who is the former president of Pakistan. Later her family migrated to Lahore because of better education facilities of the children.
She was educated initially at a village school but later her family shifted to Lahore because of better education and health facilities. She got her early education from Queen Marry School Lahore and then completed her Bsc. in Home Economics. Later she completed her masters (Msc.) in Home Economics from Punjab University.
Before entering politics she worked as a lecturer in Sharjah College of Medicine. Saira Afzal said that during her time in Sharjah college she was the only female lecturer. She believes it was a difficult time but it helped her to face the world.
Opposition From Village:
Afzal Tarar was educated in a family where education for women was not encouraged. She claims that her own family supported and helped her in her professional and political life but claims that men from her village were not supportive.
Afzal Tarar had to struggle at every stage of her journey. She had to handle a lot of challenges, specifically at her teaching career at the Sharja College, as she was the only female employee. Saira Afzal Tarar is an example for all women who have to face many problems in their lives. She is an example for all women to work hard and not give in their dream.
It was under her ministry that Ex Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif launched the Prime Minister National Health Program (PMNHP) through which under previleged citizens received health cards from government covering their health expenses.
