According to Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Sindh government is planning to expand the public transportation service to Hyderabad, the province’s second-largest city, began on February 18. This follows the successful launch of the women-only “Pink Bus” in Karachi.
In addition, recently, the Peoples Bus Service started operation in Sukkur on February 17, which was disclosed by Memon during a press conference held in his office.
The government would also add more buses to Karachi’s Pink Bus fleet, he continued.
According to Mr. Memon, there is currently only one route for the Pink Bus service in Karachi, which runs between Model Colony and Tower. Two new routes will soon be introduced.
All of these ways, he claimed, would primarily help working women. According to him, these routes had been meticulously planned to accommodate the largest possible number of female commuters with quick and comfortable transportation options.
A second route would run through Nagan Chowrangi, Shafiq Morr, Gulshan Chowrangi, Jauhar Morr, COD, Drigh Road, Shahra-e-Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony, Singer Chowrangi, and Korangi No. 5 to connect Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi with the Indus Hospital in Korangi.
The third route runs along M.A. Jinnah Road, Zebunnisa Street, Metro-pole Hotel, Teen Talwar, Do Talwar, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar, Dolmen Mall, McDonald’s, and Clock Tower between Numaish intersection and Seaview.
The Minister claimed that the Chief Minister of Sindh had discussions on expanding the Peoples Bus Service with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
The first electric bus service in the nation has already begun in Karachi, he added. He added that a sizable fleet of these vehicles had since arrived at the port and will shortly be introduced on new routes.
“The lack of petrol needed by electric buses makes them environmentally favorable. As a result, these automobiles will aid in the reduction of pollutants,” according to Mr. Memon.
