Islamabad: PIA has succeeded in reducing its daily deficit from 11 Crore in 2013 to 5 Crore in 2014, while the monthly deficit was reduced from 330 Crore to 1.5 Crore. The affairs of Pakistan International Airline were in a chaotic state under the increasing deficit.
According to the sources, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Aviation, Shujaat Azeem and Secretary of Civil Aviation Division, Muhammad Ali Gardezi was able to take effective measures upon the timely approval of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that led to a reduction of the monthly deficit of PIA within a short time period of 8 months. PIA has been able to deal with its issues of flight delay and has succeeded in cutting down its deficit by about 50%.
Recently PIA has revised its policy pertaining to the award of GSAs through the Board of Directors (BOD) in order to deem itself fit for the European Union certification and acquisition of ATR Simulator. PIA aims at attaining revalidation of European Union Safety Agency (EUSA) certification by the end of March 2014 prior to the inductance of the new aircraft on dry lease in the PIA fleet.
PIA seeks to maintain its image in the Western world and to obtain EASA-145, which will enable the airline to avoid sending the new aircrafts for inspection and maintenance checks. PIA cannot afford any further financial burden and these steps will help to cut down the costs.
PIA will initiate its flight operations to Mashhad (Iran) twice a week from Lahore via Quetta from February 25, 2014.
