The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has strictly warned five private channels namely Play TV, Oxygen TV, ROYAL TV, OYE TV, and Indus Music, for violations of PEMRA content violations.
These channels were found in airing excessive foreign content on their channels, which is beyond the permissible limit and that sometimes contained vulgar and indecent content.
As per the terms and conditions of the licence, foreign content can only take up 10 percent of a channel’s total broadcast, which constitutes a maximum duration of two hours and forty minutes in the total broadcast of 24 hours.
Oxygen TV, Play TV, and OYE TV were observed airing foreign contents for more than 2 hours and forty minutes.
Royal TV was given a licence of entertainment category but it is also airing news, current affairs shows.
The authority has given a final deadline of 30 days to these channels to correct their content as per mandate of their respective licences.
