Peshawar: Another popular Pashto Singer Zareen Jan has died here yesterday (Wednesday) at an age of 70 of natural reasons as she suffered from long-lasting illness unlike Ghazala Javed who was assassinated brutally on 18th June this year.
Zareen was born in 1942 at Par Hoti area of Mardan, got prominence after performing on Radio, TV and stage. She also received Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for her services and incredible Ghazal singing abilities.
Zareen Jan, also known as Bibi Gul began songs for radio at the age of seven and sang Hindko, Pashto, Seraiki, Punjabi, Urdu and Persian songs. She was widely recognized by the Pakhtun community across the globe. Music fanatics admired her simple style.
She played a vital role in boosting the morals of soldiers and nation by singing patriotic songs during the Pak-India 1965 battle.
She faced many difficulties in her last few years due to old age and economic problems and always looked towards the authorities for financial help. She was provided with some economic support by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government a few months ago.
