Halloween, Thanksgiving, Mehndi, Basant celebration all this had never been part of university activities. But weeks are spent celebrating fun weeks, both in private institutions and those run by government. Co-curricular activities with studies shall not be restricted. After all, they are the door way to mental and physical fitness.
But adopting the western trends and making it part of our academic session. Does this sound right? Our institutions had never supported this notion. But, thanks to the western influence and globalization that has injected in us the sense of being ‘modern’. Gone are the days when there were separate rooms for males and females. They would often mind being ‘friendly’ with each other. But this practice now seems a mare.
Recently, a month ago, fun week was celebrated in many of the private institutions, where the students engaged in colorful activities playing Holi, observed Halloween day, being dressed from a butcher to a pirate, while many would dress themselves up into a policeman and a fairy.
Often, Basant is celebrated in universities, where students wearing yellow dresses engage themselves in kite flying. Most of Students and Educational Institutes are ignoring the fact that it had led to several incidents and miss happenings.
Maintaining discipline and sticking to the norms and regulations falls as responsibility on the academic institutions. How can institutions permit happening of such inacceptable events? There shall be restrictions implemented over such unethical practices and actions by the university authorities. Otherwise, the government shall intervene in this regard to control the situation.
