Jeddah: Pakistani Food Festival opened at Movenpick Hotel Jeddah with all its pomp and galore yesterday night. The Festival was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Mazen Batterjee Deputy Chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI). Mr Hassan Dahlan Secretary General, JCCI, Pakistani Consul General, Shaharyar Akbar Khan, several Saudi businessmen, officials, and foreign diplomats were also present on the occasion.
Mr Batterjie said he was delighted to be at this Food Festival and thanked the Pakistan Consul General for inviting him. He said that Food Festivals and other similar activities help project the soft image of Pakistan and that such activities promote the products and earn a place in the huge Saudi markets.
“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy good relations and I am sure such festivals shall bring the Saudi people closer to the Pakistani people and also help develop taste of the Pakistani cuisines” he added.
In his speech, the Consul General of Pakistan, Shahryar Akbar Khan, said that he was deeply honored with the presence of Mr. Mazen Batterjee, Mr. Hassan Dahlan, Board Members and the Head of Committees of JCCI at Pakistani Food Festival. He also thanked the other Saudi high officials, and leading businessmen, dignitaries and the diplomatic corps in Jeddah, for gracing the occasion.
Khan also made a short introduction of the origin, types & varieties of the Pakistani food. “Pakistani cuisine is known for its taste, variety and richness, which is a refined blend of local culinary traditions and finds roots in the wider South Asia, Arabia, and Central Asia” he informed.
[junkie-alert style=”white”] Shahryar Akbar Khan said that Pakistani food has a vibrant and unique amalgam of the rich, spicy and highly seasoned cuisine from its various regions, like Punjab, Kashmir and Sindh with the mildly spicy, and aromatic recipes from Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. He also made mention about the BBQ items and other food delicacies from various parts of Pakistan like Seekh Kebab, Mutton/Chicken Karahi, Tikkas, Chapli Kebab, NamkeenGosht and Sajji. He welcomed and invited the dignitaries to have a taste of all these food items and learn about its taste first-hand.
