I was travelling from Lahore to Karachi when I missed my train, the first question that came to my mind was what is the refund policy of Pakistan Railway? What happens if someone misses his train?
When I contacted the staff they guided me about Refund Policy of Pakistan Railways which was lengthy, confusing and the worst part was that no refund was made instantly even after deducting huge part of the amount.
Refund Policy of Pakistan Railway:
To summarize this is what you will get as refund if you cancel or miss your train:
- 90% refund if you cancel your ticket before 48 hours of departure.
- 80% refund if you cancel your ticket before 24 hours of departure.
- 50% of refund if you cancel your ticket within 3 hours after departure.
- No refund if you cancel your ticket after 3 hours of departure.
Method of Ticket Refund:
If you have missed your train and now want to claim refund then follow these steps:
- Visit the reservation office where a desk is reserved for cancellation & refund.
- Handover your ticket, copy of CNIC & claim a refund
- He will issue a cancellation slip and will guide you to station master.
- Station master will sign your slip and will ask you to go to ticket head.
- Ticket Collector will take the slip and will issue another slip to you which you will have to submit.
- Refund will be made in 15 days if you want the refund in the same city, otherwise it may take up to 30 days.
In my case I wanted the refund in my own city (Karachi) rather than in Lahore where I missed my train. I was guided to submit the slip to the office of Divisional Superintendent Office in Karachi.
The refund policy is same for all train services including Green Line. For e-tickets the refund policy is same expect if you miss your train. If you missed your train or only 2 hours is left from departure of train then no refund will be made.
