Green Line is considered Pakistan’s first ever modern train which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his tenure. Its timing, affordable fares and services makes it a state-of-the-art passenger service.
The Greenline train, as it has been termed, covers the Karachi-Islamabad route in 22 hours. The train provides state-of-the-art services to the passengers including:
- comfortable sleepers
- 3 quality meals
- Bottled water
- Standard bedding
- Air conditioned rooms.
The toilets had been developed far better than any train in Pakistan. This train service reflects the efforts of Railways Minister and Pakistan Railways.
The train will leave Margalla Railway Station at 3 PM and will reach Karachi at 12:30 PM the next day. The train will stop at Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rohri and Hyderabad stations during the journey.
The passengers will have the facility of online booking and e-ticketing. All passengers have also been insured for a million rupees. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also informed at his address at the inauguration ceremony that a train service from Kashgar to Karachi was also under consideration. He also wished to link Turkey with Pakistan in the future.
Green Line Train Fares:
Previously Green Line offered only AC Business class but now it also offers Economy class. The charges & rates of Green Line tickets were reduced recently.

Special passenger lounges will also be built for the new service at Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi Railway stations. The schedule of the Train is as follows:
- Will depart Karachi at 10:00 PM and reach Islamabad at 8:00 PM
- Will depart Islamabad at 3:00 PM and reach Karachi at 12:50 PM

Discount on Early Booking:
After new update on the mobile application of Pakistan railways the fares for tickets of Green Line are different depending on the day for which you are booking the ticket.
On the last day the tickets are available at a higher cost, such as the fare from Islamabad to Karachi will be Rs. 5,660 & Rs. 2,170 for berth and seat while if you book the tickets before few days then you can save up to Rs. 270 & Rs. 110 by booking the ticket for Rs. 5,390 & Rs. 2,060.
The GreenLine Train service has been introduced with reduced ticket prices. Hopefully it will attract more business and will provide a more economical means of travel in Pakistan.
