LAHORE: At least one lakh Pakistanis have been deprived of their citizenships. According to details, this due to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) that has either blocked the identity cards of these Pakistanis or termed them “suspected foreigner” and rejected to issue new ID cards. NADRA has expedited the process of identifying foreigners who already have ID cards.
The spokesperson of NADRA, Faiq Ali Chachar told that NADRA was scrutinizing suspected ID cards and approximately one lakh such suspected cards had been blocked. He added that those whose ID cards had been blocked were not Pakistanis but most of them were Afghans.
Faiq Ali further said that NADRA had an error-free system through which suspected ID cards were being blocked. However, neither Faiq Ali Chachar nor Chairman NADRA Usman Mubeen could explain how those foreigners were able to get ID card.
A source from NADRA told that NADRA could not renew or issue ID card to those who had no proof of being Pakistani. It is pertinent to mention here that recently a joint authentication committee has been formed on the directives of interior ministry in order to scrutinize ID card in every province.
