Islamabad: Famous Bollywood actor Om Puri is ready to play a role of Former Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in a in a documentary on teenage rights activist Malala Yousafzai. Om Puri says that I am delighted with the role of General Kayani and I am impressed with his reaction to the incident.
Puri, who was in Pakistan recently, said in an interview here that before playing this role I get to know more about General Kayani as it was very upright what Kayani did for Malala who is the youngest person in the world to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize. As I am excited to portray him in the film and it is vital to capture the essence of the person being represented and not copy him or her.
Puri further said in an interview that “It is an ambitious project by a young filmmaker who thinks very clearly and knows what kind of films he wants to make. Malala may also make a guest appearance in the film”. Old versatile actor also warmed upon his controversial clarifications that were made against Parliamentarians at Ramlila Maidan in 2011 for which he had apologized after been served a privilege notice by the Indian parliament.
The 65-year-old actor Puri will be playing a Pakistani character in a film, he has before played a Pakistani in the disapprovingly British film ‘East is East’ and Hollywood’s Tom Hanks starrer ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’ in which he shown the role of late Pakistan army chief General Zia-ul-Haq.
