The compounds that make vegetables colourful are also good for brain functions, a new study revealed. According to the research by University of Georgia certain compounds known as cerotenoids boost our brain function.
The study was based on results from 40 adults aging 65-86 years old. It is the first time that fMRI technology was used to study the brain activity.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] The research found out that cerotenoid compounds such as lutein and zeaxanthin consumption helped the old people to complete the task better, faster and with lesser brain burden. [/junkie-alert]
In one activity they were asked to remember pair of words they were shown, those with lowered lutein and zeaxanthin had to rely more heavily on brain activity while other were more efficient.
But it is being said that the sample of 40 people is too small to claim anything, they are also being criticized for the short period for which these people were studied.
