New Delhi: A woman in India name Priyanka Paul, 24 of age, has given a birth to a baby boy. Surprisingly, the child’s heart is not in the body but within the chest. According to doctors, this situation has been called an “Ectopia cordis” and it has been found in 8 children out of 10 lakhs. Losing 90 percent of children are born in the state and are born dead or die within three days.
But doctors have said that the new born boy will not live for long time as in such cases babies do not survive for long. It is said that Ectopia cordis is a congenital malformation in which the heart is abnormally located either partially or totally outside of the thorax. The ectopic heart can be found along a spectrum of anatomical locations, including the neck, chest, or abdomen. In most cases, the heart protrudes outside the chest through a split sternum.
Due to the rarity and rapid postpartum mortality of ectopia cordis, limited treatment options have been developed. Successful surgeries have been performed, but the mortality rate remains high. The child’s parents said the hospital doctors advised them operations, but they have not enough resources. Child’s father is a labor in a construction company and was married four years ago and this is their first child.
