Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the Western thinkers and intelligentsia having the backing of their governments were targeting Islam and the Holy Prophet, and the Muslim rulers should also wake up and understand the ground realities and the sentiments of the Muslim masses. In a statement here on Saturday, he said that the people of Pakistan had expressed their love for the Holy Prophet in the Friday rallies along with their hatred for the US and the policies of the west. He said the secular intellectuals criticizing religion should realize the grave consequences of the policy of hate for religion.
Liaqat Baloch said the desecration of the Holy Quran by setting it on fire or releasing blasphemous caricatures and films was open religious terrorism. He stressed that US President Obama should personally apologize for all blasphemous acts. He said that the West should frame laws banning all forms of sacrilege and blasphemy so that no one could target religion of Islam and its symbols and tenets.
The JI leader further said that the protest in the country became violent because the masses were fed up with the apathy of the rulers in regard to the public problems especially load shedding, price hike, unemployment, lawlessness and corruption. Therefore, as long as these problems were not solved, the public mood would remain the same.
