KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has won local body elections in Karachi whereas Muslim League Nawaz has won local body polls in 12 districts of Punjab. MQM has once again proved its superiority in Karachi as the majority of public has cast their votes to MQM by expressing their confidence on MQM.
MQM has won 138 union committees in urban areas in local body election whereas there were 207 union committees. Nine members of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) have been chosen as district council in local body system, district council Karachi, of rural areas, whereas district chairman is expected to be from PPP.
Amir Jamat-e-Islami Karachi chapter, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, PPP’s president of Karachi division Najmi Alam, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Karachi’s organizer Ali Zaidi were defeated in the polls. According to unofficial results, PPP 13, Nawaz League 8, PTI 7, Jamat-e-Islami 6, independent candidate10 and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam got 2 seats in local body election of Karachi.
