Karachi: The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Saturday announced to postpone its public referendum scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, MQM officials told. According to the Rabta Committee members, the decision has been taken citing the preservation of sanctity of the month of Muharram which is highly religious to Shiite Muslims, in particular.
The MQM Co-ordination Committee London took the decision of cancelling the already-delayed public referendum asking peoples’ view about Pakistan’s future. The decision has also been endorsed by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain. The new dates for the referendum will be announced soon by the committee.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the call for public referendum by MQM has met with severe criticism across the country. It was first scheduled to be held on 8th November but after the request of DG Rangers it was postponed to 14th November and now it has been delayed for an unmentioned period of time.
