The Government of Pakistan needs much more to do in the education sector because more than 40% Pakistani adults are illiterate. During a recent meeting which was organized by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), the speakers have revealed that the literacy rate in Pakistani adults have exceeded to 40%, which is an alarming situation. Representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have also attended this meeting. The major theme of this conference was illiteracy in Pakistan.
During this meeting, all the participants have briefly discussed the situation of education in Pakistan and shared their ideas in order to achieve the target of 90% literacy rate by the end of 2025, under National Plan of Action (NPA). Chairperson of NCHD, Razina Alam Khan said that all the provinces must have to join their hands for improving not only enrollment in the educational institutions in Pakistan, but also to improve the quality of education. She said that the cooperation between all the provinces of Pakistan will help us to achieve the target of 90% literacy rate in Pakistan.
Razina Alam Khan also aimed to establish more than 12,000 new literacy centers in all around the country to get 100% enrollment, under Vision 2025.
