Lahore: World class Pakistani middle order batsman Mohammad Yousuf has refused to play for United Bank Limited (UBL) as the bank involves interest transactions. The world record holder for the most the most number of runs by any batsman in a Test calender year Mohammad Yousuf denied playing for its domestic department in the on-going president trophy because they charge interest which is Haram in Islam, newspaper reports said.
According to the report, the captain of UBL Fast bowler Shabbir Ahmed offered him to play for the bank and make an easy access to play for the National team as it is the basic condition to play for Pakistan but he refused to play for it saying, the bank charges interest.
It is quite pleasing to see a converted Muslim better realizes the prohibition of Interest in Islam than hundreds of born Muslims. Many of Muslims find excuses in dealing with interest whilst they know it well that it is one of the filthiest sin. Indeed there is a lesson for us to learn as we many times overlook this filthy sin in our daily matters.
