The Executive District Officer (Education) Zahoorul Haq confirmed reports about a ban implemented on the teachers on use of mobile phones during school hours. The ban was strictly applied, as the head teachers and principals have been directed to collect the mobile phones from all the teachers in the morning and then return them after school hours. The ban was implemented in the best interest of the students, as teachers were observed to have been wasting a lot of time on their mobile phones.
Teachers were instructed to not use the mobile phones during school hours, but the instructions were not taken seriously and hence the head teachers and the principals were asked to do the job for them. Teachers can use their mobile phones in case of an emergency with due permission of the head teacher. Some have objected to this ban. A school teacher, Raja Shahid said that teachers should be allowed to use their mobile phones outside their classes; taking away their mobile phones did not make any sense.
If the teachers will not obey this rule, they will be suspended from their duty. Earlier, students were banned form using mobile phones in the classroom, although seldom students are found with mobile phones in the government schools. But it had become a norm for the school teachers to neglect their class by attending their mobile phones. This will prove to be a good step that will provide better results.
