Senate Standing Committee on Finance met to discuss the issue of FBR, PTA and mobile operators about the withholding tax that they were depositing into their pools.
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) admitted that it has no data to collect withholding tax (WHT) from mobile operators. They claimed that the mobile operators have declined to share customer data quoting confidentiality.
During the discussion of senate standing committee Shahid Syed said that Rs. 100 mobile cards should be exempted from Tax.
Senator Saud Majeed raised questions on this practice; his concerns were shared by many other because FBR was unable to know how much tax was collected by these companies and whether they submitted it completely or not.
After interference by Pakistan Telecommunication (PTA) the matter was resolved and now FBR have specially designed app through which the network providers will share information to FBR.
