Many people in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and even in Europe among Muslim community use miswak or chewing stick to clean their teeth. But is it beneficial for our teeth? If yes then what are the benefits?
There are plenty of benefits of using miswak is made from sticks of Salvadora persica tree which is known as ‘Arak’ in Arabic. It is being used from 7,000 years to clean teeth.
There are many benefits of using miswak such as:
- Prevents plaque formation on teeth
- Makes your gums strong
- Strengthen teeth enamel
- Makes your teeth more white
- Prevents Tooth Decay
Many studies also found it more effective and healthy than the use of toothbrush. A study from 2004 which was published in ‘The journal of contemporary dental practice’ found it more beneficial after observation of a group of 40 people.
Dr. Rami Mohammed Diab who spent 17 years in studying the effects of Miswak has written many books and thesis on the matter concluding that it is more beneficial. Previously World Health Organization (WHO) also preferred the use of miswak over toothbrush.
