Public Accounts Committee (PAC) revealed another story of corruption & irregularities in Ministry of Education from the tenure of General Musharraf.
It was revealed that Ministry of Education received funds of Rs. 3.58 billion for reforms in Madrassa & establishing Poly Technical Institutes. But the Education Ministry failed to carry on the reforms and no institute was established in any city of Pakistan.
The committee took notice of the corruption and directed for a special audit for the funds which were utilized without performing any task.
Federal Education & Professional Training Secretary claimed that the projects were not initiated and delayed because of misadministration. He said that PC-1 of the project was not conceived resulting in delay, indicating that Planning Commission was also responsible for the failure of the project.
The meeting of PAC was held under the Chairman Rana Afzal Hussain who examined the details of the audit para related to the irregularities in Education Ministry.
This is not the first time that corruption was revealed in the Education Ministry, previously in 2015 Auditor General took punitive action against corruption of Rs. 5.8 billion in Punjab Education Ministry. Currently National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is also inquiring about alleged corruption in National Testing System (NTS).
