Rawalpindi: Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa will hold the office of spokesman for the Pakistan Army, replacing Major General Athar Abbas as the new Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in June this year, announcd Friday .
The newly nominated Chief of ISPR is currently operating in Dera Ismail Khan Vicinity as a general commanding office. He was transferred to 14th Infantry Division after Operation Rah-e-Nijat and has supervised key military operations against the miscreants in South Waziristan.
Bajwas has commanded 34 Punjab Regiment and also served as former Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf’s deputy military secretary and hold the key command of 111 brigade. Military officials have confirmed that the Army Chief has named Bajwa to replace Major General Athar Abbas as new DG ISPR, when he retires this year in June.
Athar Abbas was appointed as the DG ISPR on 14 January 2008 replacing Major General Waheed Arshad. He was commissioned in October 1976 from Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul and belongs to the Armoured Corps.
