Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan here on Thursday has ordered the government to carry out essential legislation in three weeks time in order to give rights of vote to the Pakistanis living overseas.
Maulvi Anwarul Haq, the Attorney General of Pakistan informed the three-member bench lead by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry that government would have to make changes in the Representation of the People Act 1976 and Electoral Rolls Act 1974 to make such thing possible for the Pakistanis that live outside Pakistan.
The three-member bench resumed hearing of a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.
The Attorney General granted sometime from the court to initiate such steps, in reply the court granted three weeks to carry out the necessary legislation.
