London: Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper and stylish batsman Kumar Sangakkara has been declared “Cricketer of the year 2011” by ‘Wisden’, the world’s leading Cricket magazine. He has also been declared as the most successful and top batsman for the same year.
It has happened for the very first time in the history of ‘Wisden’ that both the awards have been awarded to the same player. Magazine said that no other player have reached near the staggering number of runs, scored by Sangakkara. He scored a total of 2267 runs in all the formats of the game.
In the same year, he reached the milestone of scoring thousand runs in a year in One Day Internationals and Test Matches for the third time in his cricketing history. Apart from him, English opener Alistair Cook, Fast bowler Tim Bresnan, captain Lancashire County Glen Chapple and Worcestershire Fast bowler Alan Richardson is also included in the list of 5 most leading cricketers for 2011.
