He previously served as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs under the government of General Pervez Musharraf. He started his political career in with PMLN but joined PMLQ during 2002 elections.
In 2013 he joined PMLN and served as a MNA but resigned in April 2018 to join Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI).
