11 year old Muhammad Sarwar from Karachi went to nearby shop to purchase domestic items but was abducted. After 2 years of struggle he has been recovered from Afghanistan.
This is the first recorded case from Pakistan in which a child was kidnapped from Karachi and was handed over in Afghanistan, an area out of the reach of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.
According to Khair Muhammad Achakzai, father of Sarwar who is trader in Balochistan, the police and other departments didn’t help him to recover his son. He said even the FIR was lodged after court orders.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] On Jan 20, 2016 the kidnappers made their first contact using SIM from Afghanistan, demanding Rs. 100 million. Later he was called and asked to visit Faisalabad, Multan and Mardan. During all this time he was in contact with police who didn’t help. [/junkie-alert]
After negotiations they finally reached a deal, pay Rs. 10 million (1 Crore) and take your son. This time the location was inside Afghanistan. Khair Muhammad Achakzai collected the amount and started his journey to Afghanistan.
He contacted Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) which sent one of their officers with Khair Muhammad. In Chaman they met Levies who allowed Khair Muhammad to cross the border.
In Afghanistan he contacted the kidnappers who came and took the amount. After few minutes another kidnapper came to handover the son. The reunification was made possible after 2 years but not through security forces but by paying ransom.
After entering Pakistan the kid was presented to a magistrate who gave the child to protective custody of Police, which took him to Karachi and handed over him to family after presenting him in court.
According to media reports currently 6 families of abducted kids from Karachi have been contacted through Afghan numbers.
