Karachi: The Chairman of Mass Communication Department at Karachi University, Doctor Tahir Masood has resigned from his position. Sources quote that the opposition felt by Dr Tahir Masood from the department and some of the teachers on the subject of modifying the curriculum became the main reason behind his resignation. Dr Tahir Masood apparently felt disheartened and decided to resign.
Dr Tahir Masood supported his decision by stating that the courses being taught at the department of Mass Communication 18 years old and didn’t fulfill the requirements of the modern era. He stated that course had become useless and the various media houses were constantly complaining about the outdated courses. He was trying to update the syllabus since 1 year now. He had already sent the modified syllabus to the senior journalists of Pakistan for their opinion and then he had also sent the syllabus too the senior teachers of the department, but still the senior staff refused to comply.
The senior teachers didn’t allow the modified course to be accepted by the board of studies after which Dr Tahir lodged a complaint with Professor Dr Mohammad Qaiser, but he also didn’t take interest in the matter. Dr Tahir had no option but to resign after which Dr Mehmood Ghaznavi was made the acting chairman. It should be noted that the chairman of the department of health, Professor Shahid Mehmood, also resigned due to noncooperation of a few teachers and also because one teacher had not checked the student’s copies since 1 and half years.
