Government of Sindh is considering to move the winter vacations from December to January after observing the change in weather in the last few years. Previously the vacations were announced from Dec 22 till 31st December but now they are considering to announce winter holidays in January.
The issue of winter break came into highlight after notice of Heer Soho from MQM. Responding to her notice Education Minister Jam Mehtaab Aziz said that government will change the schedule after consulting with representatives of private schools. According to a weather report prepared on the basis of the last many years, a severe cold wave grips Sindh from 10th to 20th January.
Education Minister said that the decision of winter vacations will be taken by steering committee after consultation and consideration. This reflects that the schedule of winter vacation will remain same for 2018 because there is only one month left and schools are already announcing winter holidays.
The dates announced by private schools in Karachi vary but most schools are being closed from 21st, 22nd or 23rd December and they will open from 1st, 2nd or 3rd January 2018.
Last year it was decided that winter vacations will be announced in January for the next session yet the old schedule is being followed this year but it is expected that from 2019 the new schedule will be implemented.
From many years students in schools and colleges were facing problems because vacations were ending before the severe cold wave which affected most areas in January each year. Despite the change of weather from past several years no change was made in the vacations.
