Many of these cemeteries have no more place, to stop more burials in these graveyards Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) issued a notice under direction from city mayor Wasim Akhtar banning burial at six different graveyards.
But despite the ban the burials were ignored by the administration because no new graveyards have been established in the city.
A proposal is under consideration of establishing six new graveyards on three major highways of the city to manage & solve the burial issue.
The sites for the graveyards have been considered along Super Highway, the National Highway and the RCD Highway where six model graveyards will be established.
Each graveyard will be provided with enough land so that it will cater the need of two districts. It is said that Sindh Government may consider to follow the ‘Shehr-i-Khamoshan’ project of Punjab government in establishing model graveyard.

Please can you help my wife complete her family history in India. We are trying to find out in which KARACHI cemetery, her ancestor, Ivy Gertrude Burgiss is buried… and if possible any photos of the grave/headstone and any other mention of her
in any local or other Karachi records… She was buried in KARACHI on 17 Sep 1917…. She had recently died in a swimming accident along with several (British ?) soldiers….Any help or suggestions as to other sources of information or web sites would be much appreciated . Thank you..
