Karachi: The residents of Karachi are being harassed and tortured on a daily basis through vicious acts of theft, bribery, mobile snatching, murders and kidnappings. People are petrified by the current law and order situation only because their so called protectors refuse to perform their duty.
The police mission statement states maintenance of law and order as their objective. Instead they have become the supporters of the violators of law through their indifferent attitude.
The police may hold press conferences about arrests and seized ammunition, but statistics say something else. According to sources, the Karachi police claimed to have arrested 13,895 criminals since the initiation of the operation last year in September on charges of murders, extortion, kidnappings and robbery. Out of these arrests 8,272 have been jailed, while 4,972 have been released on bail. Is releasing these convicts in the best interest of the citizens?
Investigations revealed that operations were launched without any planning of the objectives or of what was to be done next. Senior officers were ambiguous about the targets or their purposes. Police were silent on the bails that were made, raising further suspicions.
Jail records from September 4th till January 27th also indicate that about 764 inmates have been added to the jails, while police claims to have arrested 8,272. The citizens are weary of the excuses made by police defending their failure. Citizens are reluctant to even report an incident occurring in their vicinity as they no longer trust these law enforcers.
