As Ramazan is about to start the prices of fruits are expected to increase due to less supply, but the increase will be fort the first week only.
Start of Ramazan also increases the demand of different fruits which results in increased prices. After the first week the supply of fruits increases resulting in decrease in rates.
Fruits such as Banana, Falsa (Grewia Asiatica), Apple, watermelon, Chiku (Sapodilla), Mangoes & many other fruits will be available. Grapes will not be available as the season has ended, while Bananas season is also ending which means it will be rare and expensive.
The current prices in fruit market are as follows:
Banana @ Rs. 86/dozen
Falsa @ Rs. 230/kg
Apple @ Rs. 170 (Iranian)
Watermelon @ Rs. 30/kg
Chiku @ Rs. 97
Oranges @ Rs. 160
Coconut @ Rs. 64
The price hike during Ramazan is not a new phenomenon in Pakistan. In all major cities of Pakistan such as Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar & Multan the prices are increased in the first few days of the holy month.
Last year citizens started a boycott campaign of fruits for few days. The campaign was started through social media after which in all major cities the demand of fruits was affected.
