Karachi: A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, headed by JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehnati called on Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and urged to take solid steps to curb extortion, target killing and terrorism in the metropolis. Speaking on the occasion, Mehnati told the CM that the murderers of a JI leader Abdul Rasheed Farooqi, who was martyred at North Karachi area, were still at large. He further said that a monument constructed in the memories of Farooqui was demolished and the JI flag, having ‘Kalema e Tayaba’ was also torched.
He said that deteriorating law and order situation, rising extortion and failure of law enforcement agencies had created a serious havoc among the society particularly business community.
On the occasion, Sindh CM assured the delegation that the strong measures would be taken to resolve the issues of law and order and extortion. HE also assured the government that murders of Farooqui would be booked at every cost.
Later while talking to media, Mehnati said that the delegation conveyed the concerns of JI to the CM. HE said that terrorists had converted the city into a slaughter house, while the law enforcement agencies and intensive institutions were enjoying the role spectator. He said that extortion was on its peak and business sector was massively affected due to the situation, he said adding that the ongoing situation was call for the government. He was of the view that politics of reconciliation doesn’t means to provide terrorists with freehand to ruin the metropolis. He said that the policy of reconciliation with terrorists had compromised the loss of a number of citizens’ lives and positions and the peace of Karachi.
He further said that JI has strong concerns over dialogue about local government system only between two parties. JI had played a leading role in the development of the city through local government and all the stake holders of the city should be taken onboard in this regard.
Mehnati also stressed the need to assure free and fair general elections. He said that flaws in the voter lists should be removed besides taking solid measures to refrain a particular group from capturing polling centers.
Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh general secretary Taj Haider, advisors to CM Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani, JI leaders Naseem Siddiqui, Birjees Ahmed, Nasarullah Shaji, Muslim Pervez, Younas Barai, Laeq Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed and Zahid Askari were also present at the meeting.
